Cocao is the original, natural source of chocolate and it is the highest food source of magnesium.

Its also the most deficient mineral in the diet of modern cultures! (Also see my blog on making your own magnesium oil)

Here are some of the many benefits of cocao:

- Alertness and focus.

- Helps to maintain muscle and nerve functions.

- The fibre found in cocao may help keep your bowel movements regular.

- Iron is abundant is cocao!!

- Very high antioxidents, benefiting the heart, skin & blood pressure.

- Cocao helps release particular neurotransmitters, like euphoria, that can trigger emotions and lifts the mood.

Its very easy to make. You can find cocao butter most health food shops. I do make this with no coconut oil but I find it more cost effective to "dilute" it a little with coconut oil ;)

Recipe:

- 100g cocao butter

- 100g coconut oil (from health food shop/supermarket - the one in the jar for cooking).

- 1/2 cup cocao powder

- 1/2 cup of sweetener of choice. I prefer honey for its benefits but another one would be maple syrup (avoid agave and rice malt as they aren't that good for you)

What next?

1. Melt cocao butter in a double boiler on a very low heat or just sit glass jug/bowl in a bowl of hot water and allow to melt.

2. Once melted, remove from heat and add coconut oil, cocao powder and sweetener and mix until smooth.

3. Add any essential oils (Why I use the ones I use --> www.snwbc.com/why-doterra

4. Add extra's such as nuts & dried berries to moulds and pour into mould or pour onto baking paper in a thin layer.

5. Pop into the freezer for an hour to set.

6. Keep in the freezer until ready to serve. Enjoy.

**** Warning: This does not taste like milk chocolate. It is quite strong ;)
